LifeKEEPER MEMORY QUILT

Not Just Statistics! Telling our stories and putting a face to the issue of suicide.

Public Awareness

•Putting a face to suicide, having the courage to tell our story, providing awareness to the urgent community and public health issue of suicide. We are Aloha Warriors for suicide pre-postvention! The foundation of ALOHA, CONNECT increase awareness, Listen to  MO`OLELO/Stories of lived experiences. EXPLORE, UNDERSTAND meaning of remembrance and honor of loved ones, individuals who died by suicide, and those struggling. Awareness begins the journey of HOPE, HELP, & HEALING.

Education & Trai​ning

•Training is vital to the growth of mind, heart, and spirit, providing opportunities to cause change, affect outcomes, and increase well-being. Remembering Uncle Ish Stagner, an educator and valued contributor to suicide prevention, intervention, and postvention, left us PINK; puuwai, ike, na`au, and kino. He taught us to engage with others through the process of PINK, a natural way of engaging, checking in, unassuming, honoring, culturally mindful exchanges with others, strength-based approach. He left us emphasizing the importance of education and training in the field of suicide prevention and postvention. We partner and facilitate ASIST, safeTALK, Aloha, Mo`olelo, and SP Basics, Transition, Healing by Art'ing, 6-week group series..


Resources & Networking monthly meetings - Angel On My Shoulder Hawai`i Foundation,  Prevent Hawai`i Task Force statewide meetings, third Thursday, 2 pm-4 pm, monthly, American Foundation for Suicide Prevention monthly meetings, and a miscellaneous invitation to training, events, and activities. Updated statewide resource document of referral contacts by Dr. Jeanelle Sugimoto-Matsuda, the Department of Health List Serve, receive updated resource announcements by the DOH Suicide Prevention Coordinator: ZeruiRenee.Yu@dohawaii.gov.

Together with hui members, colleagues, leadership and stakeholders, and Hawai`i communities, we are able to connect and respond to inquiries, and referrals with resources.
